Some of the newer window film technology includes Nano Ceramic and IR (infrared) absorbing window films and solar tint.  There are many advantages and some disadvantages to these films.  See the attached page for this FAQ.

Today was the first warm morning in some time and it was great to feel the warmth.  The sun is shinning and people are getting their cars tinted.  All good news.

Let's hope that the warming trend continues and things will thaw out completely.  I know a lot of new plants need to be planted.  Not sure if tropicals should even be planted in Houston???

A frequently asked question, FAQ,  is how to get the "One way effect", "mirror effect," and "so nobody can see inside."  The best way to get this is to do the following:
Option A:

1. Install Solar Control's Silver Grey 10% (Silver Out) window film

If you want people not to see inside at night, then the following needs to be done.
Option B:

1. Install Solar Control's Silver Grey 10% (Silver Out) window film
2. Install a second layer of Non reflective film (NR CH 5%)
3. Install lighting outside to shine on windows

Window film on glass works much the same was as standard glass.  Wherever you have more light, you will get the most reflectivity (mirror effect).  A standard reflective film will enhance this even more (such as Silver Reflective 15%).  By using a Dual reflective 5% or 15%; you reduce the interior reflectivity.  Adding the second layer of non reflective film reduces the interior reflectivity even more.

If you need "privacy" at night where people can't see inside your building (home), then the exterior lights are needed for the best effect.  Film can help, but lighting is key!

The technical specifications for Grey Matte, Silver Matte and White Out have been added.  Silver Matte will give you privacy and conserve energy for you.  The total energy rejected is 75% (TSER 75%) with Silver Matte with a Shading Coefficient of .29

In the window film industry we have always joked what an incestuous industry we're in, and each year I'm here I see more of it.  After three years, I finally visited one of my competitors to say hello.  Turns out that I knew everybody in the office.

The president remembered me from a Mexican auto tint trade show.  He even remembered that I had gotten held up at gunpoint that evening when I was off with clients to see a show.  He was suppose to go with us, but had a client meeting and could not join us.  Hmmm, now this is starting to sound like a set up?  lol

Down in Houston we got hit with a cold arctic blast where temperatures went down to 18'F at night.  For your northerners, I know that is no big deal.  However, I soon learned that some Southern homes were not built to withstand that type of temperature.

If you are hit with 20'F weather and there are exposed pipes, guess what happens?  They freeze and can rupture.  My house was built 2 feet above ground and 100% of the pipes are exposed.  And in 80 years, nobody ever bothered to insulate them.  So I got to spend the entire weekend under my house adding pipe insulation to all 200 feet of piping.

I can't believe no prior owner ever insulated the pipes.  We are glad this cold spell is over for now.  And we need to heat & warmth to help window film sales.

The Chinese window film market continues to grow.  When I moved to Shanghai, China in 2003, China was the 4th or 5th biggest car market in the world.  Predictions were that some time in 2050 China would become the largest car market in the world.  Japan was the second largest car market in the world at that time.

The Shanghai auto tint team created two different "franchise like" tint shop programs where we opened over 600 tint shops in China in less than three years and became the first auto tint supplier for a "big three" auto mfg where we got a GM part number for our film.

Only 3 years later by 2006 China became the second largest car market in the world by surpassing Japan.  And by 2009 China became the largest car market in the world and auto tint sales continued to grow.  Branded window films did very well when they marketed appropriately.
