Global Window Films, Auto, Commercial, Residential, UV, Frost Tint

Founded more than 50 years ago, Global Window Films is one of the world’s oldest and largest manufacturers of window film  and solar control tint products. Unlike many large window film corporations that have undergone mergers and buyouts in recent years, Global Window Films has remained family-owned from its inception. Global window films are the result of a single-source, vertically integrated manufacturing process. The solar window films are produced in a state-of-the-art facility with ISO-9001:2000 certification.

Virtually every product component is manufactured right at their huge campus facility, from the base petrochemical intermediate (DMT) to the finished window films. This single-source approach eliminates outsourcing and gives Global films total quality control over the entire manufacturing process, from polymers to packaging. Global Window Films markets its professional quality window films and tint to dealers through a worldwide distributor network that is dedicated to providing superior service and professional support. With product features designed to enhance installer convenience and customer satisfaction, plus pricing, service and support to help dealers build their businesses, Global Window Films sets the standard for quality, reliability and dependability.

Global manufactures High Performance HP Charcoal auto film, Non Reflective Charcoal (Quick Dry Plus/QDP) 2ply auto film, Silver Series Reflective commercial films, Dual Reflective Commercial and residential solar films, Neutral, Solar Bronze and Bronze Reflective Residential films, Nano Ceramic IR films, Frost and UV window films.

Along with excellent quality life time warranty auto films, Global offers excellent marketing support materials to help tinters to grow their business including banners, wall displays, table top displays, energy audits for buildings and much more.  Solar Control Films located in Houston, TX and St. Louis, MO distributes for Global Window Films.  Each roll of Global's auto tint is 110 feet long which is 10% more film.  Solar Control also has a complete range of installation tools so that Solar Control is a one stop shop for tinters.

Lighten Up with Transparent Films that Reject Heat
To block the solar heat, you do not have to get dark "tint" to appreciate the benefits of heat rejection solar control window film.  New technology offers solar window film products that are virtually transparent.

The following transparent films are offered by your solar control supplier and distributor:

Film          VLT              IR Rej.             TSER
CK  70      69%           80%              45%
CLR 80      76%          45%               35%
Lux 50      51%          55%               53%

Window Film Terms
VLT - Visible Light Transmittance
IR Rej. - Infra Red Heat Rejected (@1025nm)
TSER - Total Solar Energy Rejected

TSER is a better measure of energy savings / heat rejection because it takes the entire solar spectrum into consideration & reradiated heat vs. "IR rejection" which only looks at one number on the spectrum (1025 nm).  "IR rejection" can be  misleading because radiant heat comes from the entire solar spectrum & part of the heat that is "absorbed" into the glass will re-radiate into your home or office.

These films can be put on your automobile and nobody will realize that you have "tint" on your car.  These lighter films are also perfect for home owners and business owners that do not want to get the "reflective" look from reflective films.  Store owners that want to reduce fading and reduce heat build-up can install the lighter films and block the heat, reduce energy consumption and save money.  Restaurants can get rid of those "hot spots" where nobody wants to sit.

Lighten up with Solar Control Films, your solar tint supplier and distributor.  We can recommend a local tinter in your area to install our films.  With two global distribution centers located in Houston, TX and St. Louis, MO.  We have you covered to keep you cool this summer and every summer to come!

Nanjing, China Delegates Learn About Energy Conservation with Solar Film

Last week the Mayor's office of Houston contacted Solar Control Films Inc. to see if we would host a delegation of 27 people from Nanjing, China.  They wanted to learn more about how to conserve energy and be "green."  I could not get a list of guests until one hour before they arrived on Wednesday, July 8, 2009.  We found out that the delegates consisted of Chinese government officials.  We quickly amended the presentation for government officials and decision makers.

They were here for one hour; we took them on a tour of our 6,000 square foot facility and dove right into the technical stuff with a handout presentation.  We discussed the following:

    • Solar Control Films Inc. headquarters in Houston, Texas
      • 2nd distribution center in St. Louis, Missouri
    • How solar films / heat reduction films conserve energy
    • Building case study
      • Building with 10,000 square feet of glass can save 124,630 kWh per year in Houston which can translate into $19,318 in energy savings (at $.155 kWh).
    • Building payback period between 2-3 years (or less) with some solar reflective films
    • Utility rebate programs
      • If the government offsets the cost for the end consumer, the regional area can reduce the peak demand of energy
      • China has an energy capacity crisis in summer during 10 AM - 4PM.
        • In summer time, factories are (were) shut down one day a week to reduce the peak energy demand
    • Heat demonstration with heat lamp and btu meter

They had very good questions, took many pictures and all left with sample card, energy audits & technical explanations.

Let's hope that they take home the knowledge of energy conservation, buy commercial solar film and install it to reduce their energy consumption.

Energy Audits for Buildings and Homes

So how much can a home owner or business owner save by installing window film?

Answer:  Depends on your climate, type of film, and direction of your window.  That is why we can create an energy audit for your home and office.  Just fill out the following energy audit form and fax it to us at 713.681.3040.

A solar control specialist / tinter in Oklahoma City had a small prospective job and wanted to know how much the end customer would save.  In Oklahoma City, an insurance office did not want to block the light, but wanted to stop the heat.  He decided that either the Neutral 50% or Silver 50% would work fine.  He only had 93 square feet of clear glass that had a western exposure.  The Silver 50% would save over 478 kWh per year for a/c.  At $.11 kWh that would save the insurance office $53 per year (or $.60/sf).  If the insurance company wanted to put a Dual Reflective 5%; it could save 933 kWh per year or $109 per year off the electricity bill each year.

That same film, Dual Reflective 5%, installed on 1,000 SF of clear glass in Houston would save the consumer over $1,822 each and every year (12,149 kWh /year) or $1.82 per square foot of glass.  Why more savings in Houston?  Many more cooling days in Houston and the cost of electricity ranges from $.11 kWh to over $.195 kWh.  For this example, we used $.15 kWh.

The payback period would be anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 years.  Every year after that would be a extra savings and would go straight to the bottom line.  Now that is a great investment!

Heat Wave

Texas has been experiencing record setting temperatures for the past two weeks with 100'F plus days.  Everyone is trying to cool off with this heat.  What films reject the most heat & keep you cooler?

If you want a lighter film, there is DR 40%, Neutral 50%, CK 70%, CL 80% and Silver 50%.  All films block heat before it passes through your glass windows.  Which films are right for you?  Solar Control Films will recommend a local solar control specialist to assist you with your needs.  Contact Solar Control Films, your Global window film distributor at 877.989.3456.

Did you know that almost one kilowatt (kWh) hour of electricity out of every five consumer in the United States is used to cool building?  18% of United States electricity consumption is used for air conditioning?  Solar Control Films, heat blocking films, are the most effective way to reduce the use of air conditioning by stopping solar heat before it can enter through a window.
